Why Are My Fees Not What I Thought?

Calculating credit card fees can be involved. However, the calculations themselves are straightforward, with a little explanation up-front.

These examples are based on Stripe's standard fees ($0.30 + 2.9% per transaction) for a $100 balance. Suppose you are using a different fee structure or different balance amount. In that case, you should be able to substitute the necessary values to calculate your expected fees.

Note that there are two separate approaches to calculating credit card fees. The first is the organization covering those fees, and the second is when the person paying the balance covers those fees (this is often optional).

Credit Card Fees Calculation

Since each Auctria license plan has a slightly different fee for credit card integration, the following will show each plan in full. See our pricing page for more details on the Auctria fee percentage and other license-related features.

When the organization pays the credit card processing fees, it receives a net amount equal to the charge minus the appropriate fees.

When the participant pays the credit card processing fees, the organization receives the entire Charge Amount. Still, it nets the Value of the balance the participant is paying. The participant contributes an additional amount to their balance that will cover the fees being applied for the charges.

Diamond Credit Card Processing Fees Examples

Diamond

This example uses the Diamond license plan fees structure for $100 and
$0.30 + 2.9% (Stripe) + 0.25% (Auctria) per transaction

Diamond Organizer Pays

The organization receives the net amount $96.55.

Auctria's fee: $100 x 0.25% = $0.25
Stripe's fee: ($100 x 2.9%) + $0.30 = $3.20
On a Stripe charge of $100.00, the organization would net: $100.00 - $0.25 (Auctria fee) - $3.20 (Stripe fee) = $96.55

Diamond Participant Pays

The organization receives the entire $100. The Stripe charge would be $103.55.

Auctria's fee: $100 x 0.25% = $0.25
Stripe's fee (on the amount charged): ($103.55 x 2.9%) + $0.30 = $3.30
On a Stripe charge of $103.55, the organization would net: $103.55 - $0.25 (Auctria fee) - $3.30 (Stripe fee) = $100.00

Emerald Credit Card Processing Fees Examples

Emerald

This example uses the Emerald license plan fees structure for $100 and
$0.30 + 2.9% (Stripe) + 0.50% (Auctria) per transaction

Emerald Organizer Pays

The organization receives the net amount $96.30.

Auctria's fee: $100 x 0.50% = $0.50
Stripe's fee: ($100 x 2.9%) + $0.30 = $3.20
On a Stripe charge of $100.00, the organization would net: $100.00 - $0.50 (Auctria fee) - $3.20 (Stripe fee) = $96.30

Emerald Participant Pays

The organization receives the entire $100. The Stripe charge would be $103.81.

Auctria's fee: $100 x 0.50% = $0.50
Stripe's fee (on the amount charged): ($103.81 x 2.9%) + $0.30 = $3.31
On a Stripe charge of $103.81, the organization would net: $103.81 - $0.50 (Auctria fee) - $3.31 (Stripe fee) = $100.00

Explorer Credit Card Processing Fees Examples

Explorer

This example uses the Explorer license plan fees structure for $100 and
$0.30 + 2.9% (Stripe) + 1.00% (Auctria) per transaction

Explorer Organizer Pays

The organization receives the net amount $95.80.

Auctria's fee: $100 x 1.00% = $1.00
Stripe's fee: ($100 x 2.9%) + $0.30 = $3.20
On a Stripe charge of $100.00, the organization would net: $100.00 - $1.00 (Auctria fee) - $3.20 (Stripe fee) = $95.80

Explorer Participant Pays

The organization receives the entire $100. The Stripe charge would be $104.33.

Auctria's fee: $100 x 1.00% = $1.00
Stripe's fee (on the amount charged): ($104.33 x 2.9%) + $0.30 = $3.33
On a Stripe charge of $104.33, the organization would net: $104.33 - $1.00 (Auctria fee) - $3.33 (Stripe fee) = $100.00
