Participant References

Use participant references to personalize messages to your participants. Greet them by name, remind them of their table, or send them a link to add a credit card.

Examples below use a sample participant named Jane Smith, who is linked to Tom Smith.

Which form should I use?

Which form works depends on where you use the reference:

  • Emails built in the email editor: full form only, such as {{ Bidder.FirstName }}.
  • Basic emails, PDF receipt headers and footers, statement email headers and footers, and Word document templates: short form only, such as {{ FirstName }}.
  • Text messages: either form.

See Where you can use references for the full list. Participant. works the same as Bidder., so {{ Participant.FirstName }} also works wherever the full form does.

{{ GreetingNames }} adjusts to the participant:

Greeting couples and households:

{{ GreetingNames }} makes a warm greeting for couples and households, and still works for participants on their own: "Dear Jane & Tom Smith" or "Dear Jane Smith".

Receipt totals

These totals are only available in PDF participant receipt headers and footers. They don't work in statement emails, text messages, or the email editor. Use the short form.

Totals in receipt footers:

Totals are a good fit for a receipt footer, for example: "Thank you for your support! Your items won total {{ WonBidsTotal }}."

{{ Balance }} and {{ TaxDeductibleAmount }} also appear in some system emails, such as purchase and registration receipts. See What's included in system emails.

Word document templates only

These references only work in Word document templates. Elsewhere, they show up blank.

Lists

Loop through these lists with {% foreach ListName %} … {% end %}. See Lists and Word document templates.
